Clinton
discloses names of 200,000 donors
to make way for Hillary
Washington: Former
President Bill Clinton may have told President-elect
Obama much more than he wanted to know about contributors
to clear the way for Hillary Clinton to take over
as next Secretary of State. In a deal with Obama to
clear his wife's nomination, Bill Clinton agreed to
disclose publicly the names of more than 200,000 donors
to his foundation and incorporate his Global Initiative
separately from his foundation. Among the organizations
and individuals who pledged more than 90 million dollars
at a Clinton sitdown in Hong Kong for various charitable
projects in Asia was the World Toilet Organization,
the Daily News reported. The WTO, a global non-profit
for improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide,
put up 1.2 million dollars for projects in Cambodia
and India aimed at "improving the current market structure
of the sanitation sector," according to a release
from the Clinton Foundation. The contributors lined
up as Clinton convened a meeting of his Clinton Global
Initiative in Hong Kong a day after Obama named Senator
Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) as his choice for Secretary
of State, the paper said. The former President said
he was "thrilled to be joined by so many distinguished
leaders who bring their unique expertise and resources
to bear in addressing the most pressing challenges
facing the region." Meanwhile, the Secretary of State-designate
won't be leaving her Senate seat for the former President.
Bill Clinton's spokesman, Matt McKenna, told CNN that
any speculation he would be interested in having Governor
Paterson appoint him to succeed her seat is "completely
false."
