Over 65 percent polling recorded in Rajasthan

     New Delhi: The voter turnout in Rajasthan was good with 65 to 68 per cent polling being reported for 200 assembly seats. The polling went off peacefully in all assembly seats barring a few disruptions in EVMs in civil lines area in Jaipur and Jodhpur. The Election Commission in 33 districts had set up over 42 thousand booths. A total of 2,194 candidates, including 149 women, were in the fray. Counting of votes will be held on December 8. The ruling BJP is contesting 193 seats, leaving the remaining seven for their NDA allies, INLD - 4 and the JD-U -3. The opposition Congress has fielded candidates in all the 200 seats, followed by BSP in 199. Election officials said about 60 percent voters had cast their ballots and the polling was progressing smoothly barring sporadic incidents of violence and protests. An incident of firing was reported from Todabhim constituency in Karauli where a clash occurred between two groups belonging to Gujjar and Meena communities. One person was injured in the firing, Home Secretary S N Thanvi said.
